Finally! My orangeheads got busy!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks. I'm a big fan of yours as well. Once I get the hang of keeping plants algae-free and alive I'll someday have a legit planted tank and maybe discus or something in it, with the eartheaters in their own wood and rock based Amazon tank. For now though I've got to combine the two ideas, even though it's too damn bright to be the orangeheads' ideal. To be honest I'm always surprised when they try to spawn in the higher light tank.

Dave~

That tank is awesome! Nice Mix! :headbang2

They do better, breeding, in a tank with less light? I did not know that!

Great Looking Tank man! Thanks again for yesterday!

Nuthman~

:D

Hi Dave.. I'm liking the look of the tank.. Hopefully they will produce lots and keep them alive this time.. (fins crossed)... They are beautiful fish.. Of course if you can, keep us posted with pics:popcorn::popcorn: I didn't know that about the lighting also but it kinda makes sense... we're not all exibitionists:ROFL::ROFL: Sue:D

Made it an extra day this time, the wigglers even had eyes, but this morning they were there and this afternoon they were gone. The male is beating the crap out of the female. I think he's pissed.

They spend too much time with the wigglers in the pits unguarded. Irresponsible parenting. I'm going to yank them into a 20g next week to try again alone, I think.

Sorry Dave.....That sucks man.....

Yeah, one of these days. I actually counted the fish as best I could today and there's more than 50 fish in there, so it's not surprising that there are some opportunistic bastards, especially given the amount of time they spend with the babies not in their mouths. I might have to give them one more attempt at a spawn in genpop before pulling them (since I need the guest room to be clear next weekend and can't have the 20g set up) but eventually I'll get them out on their own and see how well they can do without any predators.

Dave - sorry to hear that, but I guess the good thing is that it's a solvable problem. Is it possible to move the rocks to one side of the tank, so it's easier to set up a divider (e.g. egg crate) when the time comes? I'm doing it for my severums and it serves the purpose.

Right on schedule, 2 weeks later, she is at it again.

But this time, it's with the other male!

What a little slut.

[Despite her stluttiness, I'm glad to see that there's some reproduction going on, as it helps ease the sting of losing a tank of 50+ yellow lab fry this morning due to a heater malfunction.]
