Finally my turn, roughly 1,000 gal plywood build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Good luck!!!
Rip out everything you are even thinking of removing before starting build.

Most of the stuff being removed is on the bar side of the wall, out of the way of the build. I figured I would rip all of that out why the silicone is curing for the couple weeks, that way I can keep moving forward with the project. But I do think I need to take out the wood panels and put up some drywall with some good waterproof paint over it.

If you have any questions I'll be willing to help you as best as I can. There are also alot of mfkrs with alot of experience that will chim in

Thanks, I appreciate it! I looked through the build you worked on with D davenmandy pretty thoroughly actually. You guys did a nice job!

Geez bro! I thought you said you where worried about space?? Lol! Have fun and good luck mr ants in the pants!

I am a bit worried about space! I'm hoping to fit a ping pong table in the basement still, cant take up too much room! Also on the unfinished side I do still want a place to keep tools and what not. So I can't take all the room! lol

I love these reads - keep us posted on your progress.

Will do! Hope to have updates at least a couple times a week.

Looks like a great project! I'm looking forward to seeing the progress.

On a side note, I had to laugh at your picture of the Home Depot rental truck sitting under the Lowes loading area. Lol

The Lowe's guys were giving me so much crap about that lol. Really cracked them up

Gratz on the house! I like your priorities! Good luck..

Not a home without a giant tank!

Rip the wood paneling and put something water resistant. With this large planned body of water for lon term add something water proof. Will save you later :)

I'm thinking you are right. Do you think drywall with waterproof paint will have me covered? I've seen the cement board but it seems that is more for putting up tile

Ahh, ok. I was looking up gyprock, it looked like that was a brand of drywall.

Green board is the type used in bathroom as it has a wax coating on it to help keep out moisture.

Or there is cement board used for when tile is being put up. Obviously overkill in this situation.

Cool, thanks man. Well tomorrow night I'll start pulling down the wood panels, hopefully this weekend I can find another truck to pick up some green board. That's going to be a big project. Hopefully I can get the full sheets down into the basement. I have a sharp 90* corner to get it around.

Thats the plan, at least behind the tank and on the sides of it. Rest of the basement I'll probably just go with regular drywall.

So I started pulling down paneling last night, this is going to be a big project just to remove it all. The drop ceiling is mounted over the paneling, so it makes it much more difficult to remove it all. I'm tempted to just cut it out at the ceiling height and mount green board up to that point, but I'm undecided now.

I have a couple pics, I can post them tonight of the progress, but it really doesn't show much. This weekend I will get much more into the panel removal. Hopefully by Monday I'll have all of it removed, at least where the tank is going.
