Finally my turn, roughly 1,000 gal plywood build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Good to know! Did you do some clear coats first or just the 4 or 5 tinted coats? Are you happy with how many you applied or would you go thicker?

Also bad news. The display I was going to buy sold this morning, so no upstairs tank for now. Bit of a bummer!

Quick Monday morning update, turns out I will be buying that 4x3 tank, so that is exciting. Further I am buying an extra three 75 gal tanks, so a total of six 75 gal and a 125. I really dont think I'll need most of them but we shall see. Also it looks like I've found a good deal on large stock tanks, the store owner will sell me two of them, each 150 gal, for $100 total. And the last deal, he has a pair of Reeflo pumps, I believe the hammerhead models, I'm picking them up for $125 each. So some damn good deals coming my way!

So another update. Still not onto building the actual tank but some studs are going up tonight so making progress.

So the 4x3' tank has been a roller coaster of emotions. Now it is looking like I will not be buying one, the guy is jacking up the price on me and honestly I'm just not willing to pay it. But I did buy the resin tubs, each about 150 gal, as well as the Reeflo pumps. I found out they are not the hammerhead models but actually a couple of the commercial models. They are each 1 HP and in all honesty are probably much bigger than I really need, one will probably do the job, but it is good to have a spare. The guy is also throwing in two 50 gal trashcans that are each about 3/4 full of bioballs. I know there is better media out there, but that many and all them for free is hard to pass up.

Also planning ahead a bit, I will be doing a drip on this system, I have some confusion. Based on the size of my tank I expect if the power cuts out I will have somewhere between 50 and 70 gals that end up in the sump, which isn't an issue as I have plenty of sump space now. That said how do I set up the drain in the sump so that I dont lose all that water right out the drain? I suspect my sump will be large enough to restart after and not run dry, and honestly the drip will probably refill the lost water within a couple hours of restarting the pumps, however I feel like there must be a better way around this?

Also I'm concerned, my sumps are below sewer level, the plan was to run the waste water to my ejector pump and out. However if power cuts the ejector pump is going to not run either. Is the easiest way around this to plug the ejector pump into a UPS battery backup? I just need it to run long enough to clear out the water before it fills, that 50-70 gals. Any thoughts? I might be missing something big here

this is one video that might be of help there are probably more videos on the topic but he also has a Facebook page that he frequents and you might be able to ask him questions.

and just out of curiosity what are you stocking in this beast

Thanks for the videos reptilerancher reptilerancher , I'll take a look at them on my lunch. The main fish are going to be rays. I'm planning on mostly black rays, I would really like to see a couple pairs of P14s in there, though I suspect Leos will be the main rays. Will also have the usual pbass and hopefully a black aro.

Thanks for joining C CyberRad ! I have big dreams for it, thats for sure. The timeline for completion has also gotten much longer but hopefully in the near future I will have some solid tank updates.

Quick update for anyone watching, framing the basement is coming along at a decent pace, about half the basement is framed. Last night I did the framing for the 75 gal in wall quarantine tank. That was much more of a pain in the butt than I expected since it needed to be perfectly level. But I got it done and up. So it is coming along!
