In regards to how you transport the fish, I would use a large hefty bag/liner zip tied shut and placed inside of a large rubbermaid type container. Having the fish in a large bag tied shut will prevent water from getting all over the place as you drive them to their new home. I've done the whole rubbermaid containder without a bag and water ended up everywhere.
BTW, what size tank does the new owner have?
