It's the same batch from Infinite Aquatics similar to most MFK members. The colors and bars are a bit washed out as I had just finished my water change and they are a bit stressed from my T5 bulbs. Thanks for the compliments.

I agree that substrate and backgrounds and even a natural setting in the tank help a ton in color of cichla! Bare bottom nothing tanks produce washed out fish.. IMO

Thats probably true, and would look more pleasing but :

Full time job + 6month old + 2 yr old + wife + housework =
no time = bare bottom tank.

Maybe when they go the college, I'll have more time.

I barely have enough time to do 50% water changes/4days. LOL!

Plants would look good, but my loaches would tear them to shreds!

Color looks rather nice without the decor, I could only imagine the benefits from all your recommendations. Thanks everyone.

Nice fish Bro. my 4 azuls are 9-12"s and they usually get very blue when they are excited to eat. my tank has dark background and light gravel. Dark and dark usually works best for color. For a while they were washed out. They are in a 300. I swapped a eheim pro 2 for and x5 and o boy did their colors jump back (it has 3 filters on the tank). Something about the huge water movement that tuned them up. they are regularly blue now.Water quality is huge. It is also funny to see them play in the current, they swing into it and swim up to the dump tube.

Yeah I have 2 kids and 1 on the way. I hear that with the time thing.

Yeah, thanks. I believe raising children is one of hardest jobs around. Thanks for your comments and help. Congrats to you on the third, you are crazy!!! LOL. My "THIRD" will be a ST widebar Datnoid, much cheaper than another baby!
Take care.
