Finally starting my small aquarium.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Can you just pick up driftwood out of a pond, lake or stream, and just boil and soak it? If so I'm gonna rethink all my tanks. I live in washington state and there is no shortage of driftwood here. You tank looks great. And I look forward to more updates. This is going to be beautiful, it all ready is.

Thank you very much for your comments. Well I wouldn't put any piece in, I look for certain things. One, I don't want the wood to be spongy or rotted. Some pieces I've found I've been able to scrape the rotted stuff off and make it nice. I also only try to use hard wood, never pine. Most of the wood I use is actually from a type of bush I havn't yet identified. If you look on the first page of this thread you can see the half submerged bushes. The base and root structure can get eroded out of the ground, they make some pretty neat decore.

A very nice looking tank!

I'm planning on getting a 5gallong one of these days and really go in to detail with the decor and planting, and you my friend have inspired me in many ways :)

Ps. It's a betta fish i'm planning to keep in there, for my desk :)

Simple, and amazing looking! Great job, and great tank!

I'm getting a lot of new growth I wasn't expecting yet, check it out. I really do want to get more plants to fill in the background, I just havn't had the chance. This week hopefully, I was thinking about some red myrio. With any luck the val will start spreading on the left side, no sign of new plant runners yet though. As always any tips and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Wow, that looks amazing! Cant wait to see what it looks like when its fully planted.

Great little thread.
I love the way you created the height difference by using the big stone as a border!
I missed if you allready told us what you were gonna stock when your tank is fully cycled?
Good work.

Well after I get all the plants I want in the tank, I am going to move the guppies to another tank and get dwarf puffers. I want to get 3 or 4, a male and a few females. I also think a couple of oto cats as well. Hopefully I can get a small population of snails started like malaysian trumpet snails. That should supplement the puffers diet and help keep their teeth down.

great little tank. I like the retaining wall you made with the rock. thanks for sharing all those pics :)
