FINALLY!!! THE ARRIVAL!!! MONSTER 450 GALLON

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey buddy! It looks sweet. I got the beamswork led lights off ebay. I will bring them by so you can see if you like them since I'm still waiting on my 480. They were around $100 for a 4ft fixture and use about 100 watts. They will also give you that shimmer effect on the sand (your gonna do sand still, right?). I;m excited for you bro!

yep, still using sand as substrate. did you still need more of that brown sand? otherwise i'll probably toss it out in my back patio.

text me the details of the light and pictures of the dw. Thanks,

Yeah BOY!! Looking good big dogg!

Now you know I'm going to have to come check it out, right haha.

I highly reccomend you do the durso/herbie set up and if so do it b4 you filler up!

Looking forward to the SUMP :)

Don't worry about it, i actually appreciate the comments and suggestions.

I don't think there will be a problem with the priming since the pump will stay on. This is probably an area where Kendragon can explain better for you. :) I'm going to use sand as substrate so the intake will probably be 6-8" above sand level.

I haven't found the right lighting yet so probably will use the same cheap lighting i have now. i'm just not sure how effective it would be with the the depth and dimensions of new tank.

i read your thread and you have a monster on hand. How effective is the durso pipe you use? is it quiet?

I had to tweak the Dursos a litlte to get them quiet. The majority of the noise came from the water splashing into the sump. I think the key is to have a 90 elbow at the surface of the water in your sump so that it niether bubbles (like what happens when the return is fully submerged) or makes a loud splash if it sits too high above the waterline.

I thought about trying the Herbie or Beananimal overflows, but I was familiar with the Durso and it was quiet enough for me so I figured if it ain't broke...

this is awesome im pretty much bout to do the same build will keep an eye on ur one for ideas :)

I just wanted to share an update with the plumbing. i experienced many set backs with leaks from bulkheads and had to redo the piping on several occasions. It was extremely frustrating i tell you. BUT, a great friend MrCrane came over to help complete the project. i will fill the sump up tonight with water for a test run, if all goes well then i will move tank in place and fill up completely.

I was able to split "T" using 1.5" pvc for returns and two 2" durso pipes for drains. i used a couple of 45 and 90 elbows to make things work. it looks good in my opinion.

I also want to give a late thanks to House 64 for many Q & A. thanks douche :headbang2

i included a couple of pictures of a huge malaysian dw i'm thinking about using. Still not quite sure of the direction with the decor.
