I have been wanting a Del for a while, and a LFS has one at about 9" long.

I have read up one polys in general, but want to ask some experienced keepers on their opinions on a couple things.

It will be kept with several fish. The one I am worried about it my 4inch thin bar Dat. Should I worry about the 9" Del killing the 4" Dat?

I have read the primer on feeding, and currently feed my fish some things the Del would eat, such as krill, silver sides, market shrimp, and shrimp pellets. Anthing else you would suggest specifically for Dels?

Thanks for the help, this will be my first poly!:grinno:

great job with the homework :) nice to see someone doing a little research

i feed all my polys pretty much the same things in your list. i would add sinking carnivore pellets(hikari) also.

your datnoid will not be able to fit in the delhezis mouth so it is safe ;)

good luck and post pics when u get it :D

Thanks for the response XRAYZ.

Since know one else responded I assumed that it was because no one disagreed, so I went to the LFS and placed it on hold.

It looks healthy, nice and fat, but they only had it for a week and it wouldn't eat when I was there, so if it still looks good when I go back in a week I'll pick it up!

Very excited about it and I will post some pics once its home:D

I love my Del. She is pretty mild tempered but definitely the Queen of all my polypterus. Congrats on your score, you'll love it!

Picked it up today and I am going to try and post some pics but all I had was my girls crappy cam so sorry about the quality:D

dude.
you got an endli!
not much the same as a del.
they get much bigger, and most not as active.
how much was it?
i feed my bichirs sinking pellets, whitebait and krill.
they will eat veggies that are not meant for them.

Yea, well I do not have room for a 3' fish at the present time, so I am glad i posted pics.:irked:

Looks like I will be bringing him back.:(

My stint as a poly keeper was a bit shorter then I expected.

Wait, how much did you pay for him? if it was about what you'd pay for a delhezi then you could deffinately get some more money selling it to a 3rd party instead of returning it.

just some additional info to help you decide. P. endlicheri endlicheri doesn't get to 3ft (such a size wasn't even recorded in the wild). realistically in aquariums they max out at about 20"-24", and that'll take a good number of years in general, and theres no guarantee that every single one will get this big, will depend a lot on the fish. growth slows drastically once they reach 16"-18".
