Well after many years of looking on craigslist I finaly got my 55. It came with a large light, tank, 2 HOB filters, and a stand. This was all for just $25!! After I got the tank I swung by the Lfs to buy some chemicals ($8) to clean up the glass. Once I got home I started working on it immediately. It was almost solid white film and my dad kept saying "Thats never going t ocome off, you jsut lost $20" But after about 3 1/2 hours of scrubbing my fingers to the bone I got most of it off. After that we were testing everything to make sure that it all worked, both filters worked but the light was so corroded that the circits and everything else were shot. So my dad took me to petsmart to get the lids ($35), after that we headed to menards to buy a shop light ($11) and two containers of tootsie rools ($2 :D) and we then headed home. Once we got home my dad helped me gut the light that it came with and switch over the innerds of the shop light and Wallah! Working light!

Ok now as a part of the deal I had to take down my 38 gallon, nad my 30 gallon to make room for my new 55 gallon. It was sad and I have to sell but so far nobody has sent an email (Woo! :D) so its sitting in the store room (hopefully staying there). So I put everything together, filled it with gravel from the 30 gallon and some extra rocks that I had in the shed from my past 20 gallon long. And here we go with the pics.
#1 Fish waiting as I set up their new tank
#2 Started out with just rock..
#3 Then added driftwood..
#4 Then added fake plants :)
#5 Right side of tank
#6 Left side of tank
#7 My massive chanel catfish that I've raised since it was 2", wild caught 4 years ago, now 14"
#8 Bullhead (I.D.?), wild caught 2 years ago at 1". now 5"
#9 Bluegill that Ive had since it was 1/4" long, wild caught, and not its 8" and fat :)

Total cost was $81, So what all do you think of my new aquarium?

I'll be taking the channel cat, and 4 bullheads to Cabelas for their tank hopefully this weekend. I will then have my bluegill, biggest bullhead, and a 4" Lmb who is hiding in the driftwood and I can't get a pic of. All eat pellets for goldfish.

Nice setup. sounds like you got a great deal. Had to do a bit of work, but looks like it was well worth it to me.
I'm a fan of big rocks and drift wood, not sure about the ten foil background yet.

nice set up :) looks like a channel cat :P

eek.... that lmb n channel cat will get to big for that tank in coming years.... wait maybe the lmb but the channel cat is a monster at growing..... good luck

The Channel cat is going to Cabelas this weekend hopefully and I'm going to raise up the lmb to a good 10"-11" before I take him to Cabelas so he can actually not get eaten by the other fish lol. But the bullhead and the bluegill would be fine in the tank for life right?

The tinfoil is only temperary untill I get more money saved up, I only got $6 to my name after this splurge for the tank haha :P
