Thanks for all the information. I will have to use up all the cypress mulch for now, next time ill get aspen. I'll either order a heat pad with a thermostat or get one from the pet store if they have one. I can get those kinds of dog bowls. Should the hides on both sides be damp, or just one? Im trying to save as much money as possible but still provide the snake a comfortable environment.
 
glad to help. the more hides the merrier imo, but one warm damp and one dry (the hollow water bowl) is all that i ever needed. i keep the water on the cool end and the damp hide on the warm side. if your snake is spending a bunch of time in the water bowl (in, not under) then you might want to offer a cool damp hide as well.

I got some cheap plastic dog water bowls at Walmart that are raised underneath, so most of my snakes like dozing under there. However my larger pythons and boas get large plastic shoeboxes for watering dishes and have other hide boxes.
