finding earthworms around pond?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
BPS (Bass Pro Shops) sells a stell rod that gets hooked up to a power soruce, some sort of batery. It sends a low current that causes the worms to surface. Why, I have no idea, but have heard of this method from several places.

take a piece of cardboard and soak it and put it over a shady dirt spot, after a day or so, there should be plenty of them up at the surface under the cardboard. This is what we did for worms when i was a little kid

Having a backyard which is combo of sand-coral rock and poor quality soil thus earthworms are rare. I have found your method to work the best .

Either cardboard or some cheap wooden sheet wet brings them.

Any DIY??? I've got lots of earthworms here.
What's the best method? the cardboard thing?

Saw a DIY in an old fishing book, but that was in the libary 15+ years ago.

Cardboard,an old rug, or piece of carpet. I've found worms under anything flat like a piece of wood or stones.

I'll add another vote for the cover object route. I do a lot of herp surveys with plywood cover boards; there are always lots of worms under the moist boards. It helps if there are some leaves beneath the boards too. Or even just a pile of leaves will work.

Vibration will work, but it has to be just right. Some turtles actually use this method; they stomp on the ground to bring worms to the surface.

id u have a compost bin dig around in there

I may be wrong now, but, that's a different worm used in composting. not the earthworm.
