I know I said earlier that I would not get a sauger, but the more I see them, the more I want one. Do you know of any websites or fisheries that would ship to California? I'm not looking for sauger only, but I might want a source for other native gamefish. One I want for sure is the sauger even though it does just sit around. Do fisheries feed them live food if they do not take nonliving food? I will have sacramento perch in the same tank and will not want to lose ANY sacramento perch at all. I'm fine with a fish that just sits around, that is what my catfish does most of the time. Thanks for any help.

Yes the Fisheries feed the walleyes, saugers and saugeye live foods. They do not accept the nonliving foods very well. Also they loves to eating sunfish and perch. What is point to have an inactive fish that could be fed with live foods and need a larger aquarium? Trust me on it you will not 100% satisfied with sauger.

ok. what about other gamefish? just any fisheries that have fish for sale with shipping would help. ones with black bullheads, white crappie, rock bass (are they a gamefish?), and others?

I wish my local fisheries raised those fish. 95% of the state hatcheries only raise trout. Also in pa the PFBC let's the public help stock trout and announces it months beforehand yet when they stock fish such as fingerling bass or catfish the soonest you hear about it is the Sunday afterwards in tiny print in the local paper. What the heck fish commission, I want to help stock bass as much as trout :swear:

That is because the bass doesn't need our help to boost up their numbers. We didn't stock any bass in our state or anyone is raising bass in hatcheries. Only time we stocking bass is for winterkill lakes, farm ponds and kiddy lakes. Just throw few bass in a lake and they will do their thing. The bass is adaptable game fish. That said bullheads are not gamefish they are roughfish so the bullheads are not raising in hatchery or stocking in ponds

There are fish hatcheries that sell sauger fry. However, their minimum order can range from 1000 to 5000 and they deliver only within a prescribed range of their hatchery by livewell truck for draining into rivers, natural lakes and farm ponds.

I was looking for a black bullhead since I like how they look. I might get the other 2 species and look for a spotted, snail, black so I would have A florida brown, yellow, flat, spotted, snail, and a black bullhead. Basically I would have all the species of bullhead (except if the white catfish counts as a bullhead).

Exactly where are you going keep them in? That's lot of bullheads....
