Fingers crossed for my Magma and KK breeding....

Just an update. So the female laid eggs last Saturday while I was home with my daughter. As the female was getting ready to lay and the first eggs were starting to be laid I slowly pulled the divider. They started to fight. So I netted him while I put the divider back in place but I left a gap at the bottom. After the female had covered a 3 inch by 3 inch area of rock I had my daughter go to the other side of the tank and move one of her little dolls around pushed against the glass. This distracted the male who went and tried to attack the doll (As my daughter said, "look daddy he's kissing her, he's so nice." Which had me laughing really hard) As the male was distracted I pushed the eggs onto his side. Then I told my daughter to take the doll away. The male came back and looked at the eggs and started rubbing his stomach on them. I was so excited because, for the first time, he was going through the proper motions of spawning. After he made 15-30 passes on top of the eggs I slid them back to the female. The female did her part but sadly they all turned white. This was his first attempt at going through the proper motions of breeding. I think next time he will get it right. My buddy had a male that took five attempts before he was successful at fertilizing the eggs so I'm still very hopeful for these two. Time will tell.......

Yeah I've heard some people had to try several attempts as well before success. At least you found a method that gets them both to do their job. Usually when I try that method with aggressive pairs, the male ignores the eggs and keeps on trying to attack the female through the divider. Another thing I've tried is to let them just fight it out. The female will eventually realize she can't win and the male might leave her alone. They may get a little hurt/damaged though. I recently tried this and my pair has been together for a week now.
