After going back and forth for a few months on how I was going to do it, I finally made my decision and went with a sprinkler system timer and 24v solenoid valve for filling. Pics will be posted later on. 3/8" copper from basement up to under the tank then to the solenoid valve then tubing ran up to the top of tank. For the drain I used a 250gph water pump with a sump pump float set at desired sump level. This pushes the water through 3/4" pvc through the wall outside to my liter pipes. There is a backup drain should the pump ever fail, the sump will raise high to a bulkhead and drain to the outside. So far so good. Its been running for a couple weeks.
It runs for 7 minutes 6 days a week doing about 400 gallons a week. Water temp drops roughly a degree or 2 during the change because it is only hooked up to cold water. I love the fact that I don't have to do 2 waterchanges a week now in this monster. Look for pics in a bit

I have no doubt that you know what you are doing. I am very much an amateur in these matters.

Having said that, I AM curious as to why you decided to set it up so that it changes such a large volume of water in a short time rather than the "continuous drip" style?

Just curious!

I figured that if I was to do a 2-3 gph drip the drain pump would be running on and off too much and burn it or the float out quicker as opposed to clicking on once a day for a few minutes. Also with the drip I thought it not remove as much old tank water as flushing the 70 gpd through.

Just my thoughts on the idea

can we have a full tank shot?

Here it is when I was just finishing it up in Feb. this year. I don't have any recent full tank shots. The tank is 120x48x30
