So I've got a couple of Florida gar and it appears that the fins are being eaten away. There are no tank mates just 2 gar and a nice clean tank. Ammonia 0 nitrates 0 and nitrites 10-15ppm, so the water is good and is always good. Now I do have another tank with Tropheus and they have an algae eater from petsmart that I have had for 2 years and he also has the same thing going on, and had had it ever since he came home. The only thing that is the same in the 2 tanks is that they both have snails, so this is the only thing I can find to blame.please dues anyone know what this is out is it because if the snails? The problem seems to only effect the fish that trend to lay around, not the ones that swim all day.The first and second picture are of the gar and the last one is the algae eater. Thanks for the help in advance.

fin rot, get med for other fish and for the gar just add salt and raise the temp up to 85F

fin rot or aggression issues.... gar don't always get along they have a hierarchy.. and you can get a bully. its rare. But I wouldn't discount it. More then once one or more of my gar have had split/missing finage from my other gar.

If it's fin rot, what would have caused it and how come only these fish have it,I have 9 fish tanks ranging from 240g down to an 18g and only these 3 fish seem to exhibit it. Thanks
