Fins

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Monkey-brain, (I know you're not trying to argue) I meant to move the stuff around to open up an area for them to swim.....(if that makes sense) for example, I have hermit crabs, I have a bunch of accessories for them, BUT, I have everything towards the back of the tank, so that the front can be used as an "expressway"

By messing up the environment, that'd be breaking up territories (as Sean-820 pointed out) but it would be beneficial in the long run.

Smaller pygos are more skittish than their larger counterparts (both adult pygos, and most serra species) and need hiding spots more than larger fish do. Mine hides less now, than he did when I first got him. But, unlike what I do with mine, don't adjust your hideys as they grow. Just let them grow out of them. Considering the size yours are at now, maybe the best thing you could do would be small flat things to hide behind, but don't use as much space... (If that makes any sense) Like a row of tall plants towards the back, (this would require the removal of the driftwood)

The only reason I adjust mine is because he's a single, and he needs that added security, or else he'd become a proverbial basket case.

Either way, the unanimous opinion is lower your temp, up your feed, or cut down your numbers. Other than that, whomever's advice you chose to take may or may not work. Monkey's might be the best for you, or mine might be the best for you. Each fish is different, and you should try various things until you find what works!! ^^

Thanks sushi, monkey, and sean for all your advise
The fin nipping isnt really that big, there just a few bites in the tail, as if they were playing around, nothing serious has come along yet and i dont want it to. So im going to try some of your ideas in the next week or two and ill get back to you on the details

as long as its only fin nips and no flesh wound its all good
piranhas are remarkable healers and will have new fins in no time

and by asking is you changes anything in the tank i ment that if you screw up their territories new ones have equal chance at claiming territory but, the tank may get more agressive due to having to sort out territories again
