fire belly newt

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The tank would have to be set-up with an area where the newt can get out of the water. Newts prefer a wet environment to a water one.

:iagree:

I've kept them and they can live without baskings ,newts inhbits highly aerated clean water but it also prey on small fishes.it also accepts pellets

Jason, how will you know Chaleng can understand Tagalog?

Edit: Never mind. Jason has translated it.:)

Fire-belly newts should not be keep with several fish. They need a place (floating island) to get out of water from time to time. Often time fish might pick on the newt or can end up as a meal. The newt also needs temps. around or under 70 degrees, which does not work with tropical fish. If you are around 70 degrees, it can be done but is a risk and you should keep them separate, its better for the fish and the newt.

If you really want the FBNs, just get a ten gallon tank, get a couple and enjoy!

Good luck
Mitch

Newts can also drown very easily if they cant reach the surface and are very sensitive to fish parasites and hillness

ive had 3 firebelly newts living with 8 feeder goldfish in a 20 gal aquarium for quit some time now and they seem to be doing fine... Just make sure you lower the water level so if they are floating on a log or something they wont get to close to the aquarium light...

This is very true. Sure you can keep them together and sure they will do ok (in some cases). The risk is always there, fish are very dirty and can handle higher ammonia levels than newts. The newts will live longer, happier lives if you don't have them with a bunch of fish.
