Fire eel and clown loaches?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've never had a fire eel so I can't comment on the combination. I can say that of the 10 Clowns that I have, I have never experienced any of them eating slime coat or have ever heard of that happening.

I can say I currently keep 5 large clowns with my fire eel. They absolutely ignore each other. I have never heard of clowns messing with slime coat, are you sure you're not thinking of plecos?

Adding a fire eel, to a 6 months established 240G 96x24x24 tank stock with 5x3" clown loaches and 1x11" jardinii. Will this mix work or just a recipe for immediate, if not future disaster?

The Jar may be the issue in the long-term. ime Fire eels are out and about fish, and also abit neurotic in their behavior. Mine will dash and dive around the tank like holy terrors when feeling frisky. This may spook your jar or initiate an attack on the eel. Jars are notorious for "turning" on tank-mates. So it's something to really watch-out for. As for the eel 'n CLs I agree there shouldn't be a problem unless the fire when larger decides to try and eat one. their growth rates are very different. plenty of hideing spots for the eel and Cls from the Jar may be all the prevention you'de need.
