Hello everyone,

I am planning for my first piranha tank. I have a 110 gallon which I will get when I move to my new home in a month. I plan on putting two 5 inch oscars in it as well as introduce some piranhas. I was watching some youtube videos and noticed this really sweet fire eel. I'm not very familiar with these guys. Can you put these with Pirahnas, especially when they are introduced together at a young age. I would guess it should be fine.

So if anyone has experience with these eels please let me know...

Thanks

mixing anything with a school of piranhas is a very bad idea. you could do it with a single maybe, but the P would be unhappy because it is a pack hunter. you should look in the piranha section under the stickies.

if you want a tank with piranhas in it, you are going to be stuck with piranhas only... attempting to mix piranhas and oscars will end badly, and quickly at that. if the piranhas are small enough to fit in the oscars mouth, the oscar will eat them, if the piranhas are too big to fit in the oscars mouth, the piranhas will eventually eat the oscar. if you want a nice community tank, piranhas will not be a part of the equation, unless you don't mind spending alot of money replacing the fish that they eat.

Piranha's aren't pack hunters, they stay together for safety from large predators in the wild. When one starts feeding on something, the movement and smells attract the others which starts a "feeding frenzy". This may seem like pack hunting, but a single piranha will do just fine by itself. As for other species of tank mates, it wouldn't be a good idea. Once a piranha realizes it can kill the other fish, it will.

My advice is to just look around and don't just jump straight into getting piranhas. There are plenty of species out there that would make much better pets and tankmates for other fish you might want to get.

very bad idea... sorry won't happen the poor oscars and eel will get killed..

Errr, that seems like a really bad idea to me.

If you like the piranha look, but want a community tank, why not go with some nice red hooks?
