I wonder if you could mix cloves carefully enough to sedate him and the cut up the catfish and remove it? I think I would be looking for a vet who specialises in fish.

Well the eel took frozen krill late last night so I will say he's ok for now.
I relocated the cat to another tank. His head/eye and side are pretty messed up as seen in the photo, and he is swimming around aimlessly towards the top of the tank. Not expecting him to make it but we shall see.
Great news! I wonder if the Eel said "Look Mr Catfish, it is clear this is not going to end well for us, if you release your spines I promise to spit you out"
I’m sure he will be fine. If it was bothering him you would know it. My tire track ate one of the algae eaters spit it’s skull back out lol. Eels are pretty resilient and can hang on to food for a while. They are generally not aggressive eaters meaning they don’t typically fight for food so they take as much as they can when they get it. I put about 4 dozen ghost shrimp in the tank weekly and hand feed 2 cubes of frozen blood worms every other day has left the other fish alone since I started keeping the shrimp stocked. Good luck
A fire eel will eat much bigger items than blood worm and ghost shrimp, it may be cheaper to feed some whole fish (like smelt) cooked prawns, lob worms etc. They really grow when you get them on big foods.
