Behind you
i've been dying to buy one of this guys for a couple of weeks now at my LFS, but as i was doin my research on these guys from a handful of of sites i read that these guys are really hard to feed. more like finicky i suppose? how true is this? and do these guys just eat live feeders or can they be trained to eat pellets eventually? i'm having second thoughts due these comments i've read on the web about them.

thanks for immediate responses guys, i definitely appreciate your first hand experiences with fire eels.

No thank you needed. This is MFK!

Anyway you have me missing mine and seeing they had some 12 inchers at a LFS here in my area you got me thinking:D.

I have two and really love them. The first one wouldn't eat for a bit (at least I didn't see him eat, they are nocturnal hunters so that could be why) I tried getting him to eat earthworms right after lights out and he ate them right away. I have a smaller one that I was holding a block of bloodworms and he came right up and started eating it right away. He will also eat brineshrimp and flakes but wouldn't recommend just doing flake and pellets. They're a lot of fun to have and get really big and have great colors!

hope mine turns out to be like yours, i'll be getting one half an hour from now. or maybe think of getting one.

If you really don't think they're eating you can try ghost shrimp and then go from there or just try starving them for a couple days and use worms. I've found it helps if you wriggle them if they're not very energetic worms.

It was my girlfriends fish and she was into eels for a little bit and now is into... I don't know anymore. Not like she takes care of them. So I guess I shouldn't say it was her's. She gave up on them after one of our peacock eel's went missing/died. So I traded them into the LFS for... a Jurnese I think or an NTT... sorry can't remember.
I basically have took away her fish choosing decisions.
