fire eel feeding question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have an 18"+ fire eel. He won't eat anything except frozen shrimp! It took me a few different types of food to see what he preferred. Great pet, my wife hand feeds him!

It was my girlfriends fish and she was into eels for a little bit and now is into... I don't know anymore. Not like she takes care of them. So I guess I shouldn't say it was her's. She gave up on them after one of our peacock eel's went missing/died. So I traded them into the LFS for... a Jurnese I think or an NTT... sorry can't remember.
I basically have took away her fish choosing decisions.

Maybe he's still adjusting, water quality, tankmates, there is many reasons. Even though I don't recommend it you can try some live food and see if he goes for it. But I wouldn't try that for about a week. He's a big boy and can go for a week or 2 without eating.
That's all I got for you. This is a common problem when you buy larger sized fish. You have to work at getting them on your feeding diets.
