any fish can jump out of an uncovered tank.I had a pleco jump out before. An arowana and fire eel would be on the ground before you left the room.

Quite true and a very good point. I had a discus jump before, luckly it landed on the top glass and was quickly back in the tank.

Ok I have decided to get a silver aro. I am building a heated pond this spring and I want an aro in it. I am going to get creative about the top and if I can leave the driftwood out the top. I know I can't leave it open with an aro. Also I have 2 birds that I don't want to get eaten by the aro because the are free range birds in the house as well as my free range iguana that has driftwood leading up the side of the tank and sleeps up there on the driftwood above the tank.

Now my question is: what about a fire eel and a silver aro? yay or nay?

my fire eel was good for a bout 4 months and then one morning i found him on the floor dead.. i also have a tire track eel for about 8 months now and he never tried to jump out before, until this past week where he jumped out twice.. luckly i was right there to put him back in each time though.. my tank is covered too, and theres just small openings by the filter

Silver arowanas instinctively hurl themselves into the trees to catch insects. get a hood.
Furthermore, free range is done with chickens, zoos, and invasive species. wouldnt reccomend it.

My 16" Fire eel moved my cover which had 3 lb weights distributed over it and jumped to his death.. He'll be gone in no time on a tank with no cover.
