fire eel problem HELP!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ok heres the update....
i did like everyone said keeped lights off to keep stress down. yesterday i began to see eel more often on side and heavy breathing
then after work saw him upside down breathing heavy still and almost curled up in a ball...
i had no choice but to medicate i was affraid he was dieing even though nothing could be seen physically wrong no fungus, bacteria, fin rot nothing
i treated with pimafix i figured it had to be something internal that i can not see
first day i treated yesterday at a quarter percent of what the bottle says to medicate...so not very much at all....cause i no eels and meds arnt really a good combo. this morning woke up and hes looking and acting completly different actually swimmy around not to much but still none the less
has not yet eatten but id figured he not healed yet but soon i hope he will take food.
i am treating everyday a quarter of what it actually says to do and doing 10% water changes everyday as well before medicating i will do this for a total of 7 days
today is day 2 of medication and so far so good...hes like a new fish :) not breathing heavy and mouth is closed BACK TO NORMAL:headbang2
Lets hope he pulls threw, dont wana get my hopes up yet

also forgot.. make sure when you run those meds.. while it advises taking out carbon ect.. don't futz with your system.. let you filter do it's job.

i hope all that works and do the fire eels make good pets?

They make excellent pets.. but require abit more then the average "wet pet" ime.

<~ thats Scarlet my big female? .. I think at least :D... She takes food from my hand and lets me handle her in her tank carefully.. and is very curiouse and engages anyone who approaches the tank. I would deffinately reccomend them for anyone willing to put in the effort to keep these fish ( they are fish.. not true eels) They do well with just about any other fish. except con-specifics ( other spiney eels ) which can be done if careful. But would not reccomend unless you are diligent and prepared to put the fish in seperate tanks if aggression issues persist between them.

fire eels+awesome lol

Nice looking fish! Just keep an eye on those Cichlids.. make sure they can't get into the tubes w/ the eel.
