Indeed he is! 🤗
ATM the seller seems to not want it to go into “another” 125 gal, even though they only stipulated “tank must be 6’ minimum” in the for sale post. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Being the honest bloke that I am, I won’t BS and promise it would end up in the big tank to push the sale thru, though the way I like to move things around that reality is very likely.
Communication has been vague. Waiting on a reply to a direct question, “will you sell it to me?”
I travel home to visit my parents in Australia for a week, leaving March 18, so perhaps the seller will be more inclined if he still has it upon my return 🙏🏼

Update; so the seller has officially declined to sell the fire eel to me to put in my 125g. He insists that it goes into a 180g minimum 🤷🏻‍♂️
The video he sent me shows it looking uncramped and moving about freely in his 125g. I guess I should be happy he wants a better life for it than the one he feels he’s giving it.
TBH I could put it straight into the 500g w the moba for now, and move the moba over to the 125 after I get back from Australia in 3 weeks. After all the water param’s are the same in both tanks 🤔
But alas, since I have never kept a FE before I think I’m gonna be patient and wait. Last time I went to Australia we had a breaker trip and I lost about $1.5K worth of predator haps. I can do without coming home to an unexpected situation w a known predator I have never kept before.
I have plans to empty the 500g, buff the front viewing panel inside & out, and move it to a different wall in our basement. If he fire eel is still available when I am “ready” for it, I will buy it then. At least I know the seller isn’t gonna let it go easily 🤙🏼

Sounds like that guy is concerned for the welfare of his fish, which bodes well for anyone buying from him.

I absolutely think you are taking the correct course by holding off. Frankly, if I were on the cusp of leaving for three weeks of vacation, there is only one thing that I would even consider changing right before I left: water! No new fish, or moving around old fish, or alterations to filtration, or anything else really. Stuff like that, IMHO, demands careful monitoring and observation for several weeks at least.

And...dare I mention the "Q" word...? I won't bring anything home from anywhere without a strict quarantine. The bigger and more established your tank is, the more you are risking by dropping in a new fish, even one from a promising and apparently healthy source like this one.

Edited to add: In thinking about it, if I were in this position I might offer the guy a deposit to hold the fish until I got back from Oz. Then you could unhurriedly set up a QT for it, while selling or perhaps filleting your mobas (again, nice fish...but only cichlids...) to open up the big tank for the Fire Eel. :) If you don't have a biologically mature QT already, you could install a big sponge filter in one of your existing tanks before you leave, so that by the time you return it will likely be ready to install in a freshly-set-up QT.

Then you could start searching for another couple of Fire Eels to create that spectacular display. And while I have never had Clown Loaches, I suspect the two species would do very well together and would look great.

Thx jjohnwm jjohnwm for the wise and sound advice. I do have plenty of additional mature filter options for a QT set up. 🤙🏼

Butterflied tempura moba w sweet chilli dipping sauce does sound tempting 😂

I’m pretty set on moving the moba & mdokas to the 125 upon my return and getting busy buffing and relocating the big acrylic tank. I’m gonna wait and see how it all plays out.

Cheers my Canukistanian brutha 🫡
