I was thinking about getting a fire eel. It's just over 12 inches.
Would it be OK in my ray tank?
Are they known to escape from their tank like a Moray eel would?

Like most eels Fire Eels are known escape artists, I know because I care for 2 myself and keep sealed lids on my tanks at all times. IMO if your fire eel can't fit in your rays mouth you shouldn't have a problem, but who knows all fish have different temperaments. Best of luck!

I put 1.5 inch pvc pipe in mine for my fire eel to hide in from my ray. If they have nowhere to hide they will escape. Mine would hide in my hob filter when it didnt have a hiding spot lol

Agreed, they are excellent escape artists but if you provide suitable hides they then to claim one and never leave . It;s if you urn a bare tank and they cannot hide that they quickly climb out .

I dont know about the mix of an eel with the ray's though, I suspect it's only a matter of time before a ray would eats a fire eel

My Leo's r 1 1/2 years old, about 13 in.
Pretty sure the eel would b good at 12 inches.
If I put the eel in with the rays, it'll b in a 560 with a sealed top. If I put the eel in my 210, the top has pothos growing and it could get out from there.
Not sure what I'm going to do yet.

I dont even have a lid on my fire eels tank haha. But i have shelter for him. But something weird just happened to him. I did a quick 5 gallon water change in my 37g where he was in for a few days while i get something situated with another tank. About 2 hours after the water change, he's floating on the top breathing hard with his head out. Just his tail is moving. I thought he was dying. I rushed him to his original 55g and now he is just laying on his side in the little log he likes.
By the way, the 55g has two 4" teacup rays in it. Male and female. The eel is close to 16"
