Although I appreciate you pointing that out. I will not be looking to get another soon. As promised here are some pictures of a proper autopsy. Good and bad he looked absolutely perfect inside. Gill's looked great and stomach was totally empty. I was hoping to find a cause of death but it appears I will have no such luck. Anyway I hope these pictures can help someone on the future.

Sounds to me very much like there was something in the water that shouldn't have been there. Did you treat the tank for anything else or add plant fert etc.? Snails coming up to the surface and a sick fire eel indicate that.
