I did a 1/4 water change yesterday and added a new filtration system and I have not seen my eel since  I have been waiting and checking the tank like an expected mother hen.....

I did not allow the temp to drop as I added water maybe 2 deg. the cat is doing great (dont they always) hardy little guys

should I be concerned? I know people say that any change to the tank makes the fire eels hide up to 3 weeks??

if you're worried that he got sucked into the filter or something id just move the decoration and plants around to find him, if you know he's around and just wanna see him i guess let him be he'll pop up eventually

+1

Heh...funny related story. When I was brand new to this I had my 20gal setup with 3 guppies 3 platy's a ghost catfish 2 clown loaches a rainbow shark and a striped raphael catfish. I didn't know just how nocturnal and invisible the raphael cats were at the time. I've got that 20 set up with an asian theme straight outta petsmart, dragon bubbler, two little temple things & a bonzai tree at the time. The cat got into the taller of the two temple/towers which had 'barred windows' I guess is a way to put it. I was CONVINCED that the fish had gotten itself stuck in there. I actually ended up taking a gerber & mini bolt cutters and cutting one of the window bars outs so it could get out:ROFL:

Moral of the story is...I'm sure your eel is fine, just wait;) Like fisher said, if you're really concerned that he's not in the tank any more then do a quick overturn, I'd just try not to prolong the process and unnecessarily stress the eel.

on a sidenote...now I want a peacock eel:irked: (well really I want a fire eel, but too big too fast I think)

haha moloch i considered the peacock eel but ended up deciding against it XD

Yeah I don't think I'd get away with it (wife:ROFL:)

When I get a reef tank set up I definitely want to try and get a SW eel though...good lord those things were freakin SWEET looking.

i've caught far too many SW eels that enjoyed tangling up my line to keep them on purpose -__-

Haha, I've never had (or taken) the opportunity to fish the oceans. These ones were really freakin awesome though....bright orange bands on one, bright white on the other....they were cool. Granted I don't know ANYTHING about them...but hey...whatever. I'm still a few years off from a reef/marine setup anyways.

Thank you guys

I am sure he is not up the filter as he would not fit in any way so he is just hiding from me I guess..... brat

I hope the water change did not shock him, I have been told that at an early age this can happen... since it is my first fire eel I am not sure

if you're worried he went in to shock check under and in ur decor, im sure everything is okay :P

I am back from Canada, yes my eel was fine hiding in the power head that was turned off  made me jump out of my skin almost.... now I have been gone for 4 days and no body has seen him since before I left Thursday night.....

He is not in the power head this time because I took it out ;) and he is not in the decorations :D we do not really have any :) just 2 logs that have some nice spots for him to hide in but does he use those NO... we have to play hide and seek all the time, he did not eat his shrimp while I was gone either

this eel is going to be the death of me... my husband is ok with me having a huge eel as long as he stays in the tank :nilly: I guess it is a good thing he does not know I cannot find him again

so now I have purchased gutter guard to block the over flow, should I block it before I find him???? telling you guys the death of me... I should have gotten a bigger one.... LFS are so funny (not) I asked them do you think he will go into the over flow? No they would not every do that.. Right ok and I knew this was going to be a problem before I brought him home, I thought by giving him some nice hiding spots he would take me up on the free rent.... :screwy: guess not oh and then the exhaust tub got pushed down into the over flow... so if he does not show up in a few days  my pump might have won the battle however it is 1200 gph do you think he could swim up it??

telling you the death of me... Eels are very interesting things
