not everyone else does. I built my stand as well (also with my pops)and shaved off a few zero's on my final cost- I also found a 90 gallon for 50 dollars-delivered. I also worked at a petstore and got my fish direct. You don't want to know what I saved there believe me. Not everybody has the extra special smarts and resources you get from being poor
I wish I had a wood shop. Just built it in the backyard with the chop saw eh. You're right about the being poor haha, I started my first job and man, I look for any ways just to shave off some money off the build. And also you're right about finding deals on tanks, here it's hard to find cheap large tanks, compared to like California, Phoenix, Florida ect..

Hell yeah man. Just drive it like a grandma and you may still have your license when you're old enough to appreciate the pretty ladies that only want you for your car
I would be looking at getting at least a 220 if I were you. 150's are only 18" wide, which is too narrow for a fish that gets 30-40" long. I do think that the size rules can be adjusted for eels since they are so flexible. A 220 is 24" wide and 30" tall, so it really gives you a much better space for the fire eel when it's full grown. That said, if you can and want to go bigger, go for it! I just don't recommend going smaller.
I'm sorry to see everyone hacking at this thread though. Seems to be getting too common around here. As far as what you paid for your 90, that's up to you what you're ok with. If you think it's worth it then that's all that matters. I can guarantee that there are guys on the reef forums that have spent 3-4X as much on a 90 gallon tank, and I'm sure there are discus keepers that have spent at least twice what you did on a 90. Don't worry about what other people say, and they really shouldn't worry about what you paid.
Having said that, a comment to those of you that have built your own stands, I can almost guarantee that they, although I'm sure very nice looking, will not hold a candle to a show quality cherry wood stand. I have seen some of those and they are breathtaking. There is one for sale in my area for a 300 and they want $5K for just the stand, no canopy. I like my stand, even though it's halfway a diy stand, but if I ever had the money to get one of those really nice stands for my 220, I wouldn't hesitate to pay $3-4K for one. It really upgrades the look of the setup to a show quality setup.
