Here's some growth rates for fire eels in tanks:

1) 2 feet in 18 months
2) 3 feet in 2 years
3) 8 to 30 inches in under a year
4) 2 feet in 2 years


A 90 is far too small. A 200 would be a minimum, imo, although I think they'd do a lot better in much larger surroundings.

While I have a bit of a hard time believing 2) and 3), the others are very possible.
 
so he was stuck in the decoration i had to bust a hole in it and he came flying up he is now happy and ate half a cube of frozen blood worms!

I'm glass you got him out. They do like their hiding places. I keep pvc tubes in my tank for now. Once my driftwood sinks I plan on removing them though. I still might add plants to the tank but for now I'm enjoying leaving the lights off at all times, except for when I'm watching them, because I get no algae whatsoever that way.
