is $50.00 (US money) a good buy on a 6"-7" fire eel?
also i hear they are kinda hard to raise, is that true?

They're not difficult to raise. They're fairly hardy. I don't think $50 is "too" bad for a 7 incher. It's a tad bit on the high end, though.

All i can say is if you get one make sure you cover ALL openings on your tank, and if you don't have some sort of covering for the top of your tank, get one before getting the fish... coz my Fire eel which was close to 20inches managed to some how jump out of a small opening where my filter inlets feed into the tank and died...

where lol in jersey one like that goes for $70 and ive seen some lfs sell them for as much as $125 crazy right but i would never pay that much for one lol now to answer your questions fire eels are not hard to raise but sometimes they are a pain to feed, hopefully this will not be your case. So i would say $50 sounds reasonable, what other type of fish will you be keeping with him?
