Fire Mouth

I just picked up a new fire mouth cichlid it is around 1.5inches. I was wondering if it would be ok to keep in a community tank until he reaches 3inches. In my other cichlid tank the fish are to big and im afraid he will get eaten. In the comm tank i have to big goldfish and a couple mollies and frogs. Think it will be ok??

What size tank and how long before you get rid of the goldfish?

55g and im not. I have two 55g tanks one cichlids, one community. Im only keeping him in the community until he reaches 3inches. Think it will be ok? I never had a fire mouth but i heard they are not that agg.

One thorichthys by itself is less likely to be aggressive. But they are not a peaceful cichlid per se.

55g I agree is an okay size for that stock for now, but watch your nitrates well. Those goldfish will thrash your filtration pretty soon.

I had the goldfish for awhile in the tank. One i had for 4yrs and the other 1yr

Oh, and your nitrates are still manageable with a 9" goldfish and a younger one? That's pretty impressive.

I have well water with high nitrates but i do alot of water changes. So the nitrates stay at the amount of the well water

Whats your water temp? Goldfish won't be happy at the same temp. as a firemouth I don't think.
