You should be fine. You can put him in there and monitor the situation for the next week and keep them well fed.
The temp is at 73. My goldfish were at that temp for yrs. Its their max and the firemouths min temp. Anyone have exper keeping firemouths?? How are they?
Every fish is different. I've had about 6 firemouths over the years. Pair's tend to be more aggressive in my experience, but I had one particular male that was not a nice fish.
I love their colours though! They also tend to grower slower than a lot of other common cichlids.

Meeki are more show than anything else. They will use their gill plates to get their point across and move one. I doubt you will have much trouble with one. Especially at that size they haven't even reached sexual maturity. If you want to keep a group I would get 5-6 not 2-3 or one will get bullied too much. I have 6 in a 125 gallon tank and they are fun to watch in a group. They constantly flare at eachother and display to eachother. One odd thing I have noticed is they tend to stay on one side of the tank for the most part with eachother. I thought that was kinda interesting.
