Firemouth activity

Generally, how active and interactive are firemouths?

Could you keep a firemouth by itself in a tank (like many people will do with oscars), and expect it to be an interesting and interactive pet, even by itself? Or are they more suited to cichlid community tanks?
 
They tend to be IME much more skittish especially when kept as a single fish. I'd go with it in a community or even as a pair for more activity.
 
Single firemouth is pretty active with bigger fish in the same tank.
of course, the big should not bother the firemouth.
I have 2 incher FM with Discuses...Yes..Discuses...
they do not bother each other...
