FIREMOUTH CICHLID FRY

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
to tell u the truth id leave them in the tank i rarely ever took fry away from cichlids even if there was a buch of fish in the tank u might get less fry to live but ull still get a lot i had a very large pair of cons have over 500 fry and around 400 survived and then was feed to other fish......

cool! i think in the end i may do that because the heater in my quarentine tank dosnt seem to work. theres at least 200 fry in there so im hopin for some to survive. now what about feeding them should i go out and buy brine shrimp or will the parents spit out food for them?

i think a save bet would be to get baby brine shrimp, that way they can fist it in the mouth, in my opinion, i would let the fry grow out for about a week, removing most if not all fry at the end of the week, let them grow out a little more in a separate tank, and then move them into a larger holding tank till you have got a plan on what you want to do with them. of course given your sercumstances i think letting the parents care for the brood is best. i hope some one with a little more experience comes along, giving you relible info on what you need to do, as of now we are kind os just winging it.

hey guys thanks for all your advice... i left the fry in with the parents and their growin nice! preetty good survival rating now i just gotta figure out what to do with all these guys!

Wow! I just read the whole thread, and was gettin' worried what solution you were gonna follow, then bang - Update! - and all those juvie Firemouths! Brilliant!
Great stuff. You should ask around all your local fish shops - see who'll give you the best store credit for them.
Developing a relationship with a good lfs and trading fish with them can be quite rewarding. I've had a lot of store credit over the years - lotsa 'free' fish food!

Best of luck.
