So I'm moving away as of August for school so I've come to the decision to thin out all my fish tanks and bigger fish and just keep a small 55gallon in my house for my family to enjoy. Mom decided she will take over the maintenance while I'm gone and I'll still be able to have a fish tank for when I'm home. I want the center piece of this tank to be a pair of Firemouth Cichlids. I've really grown to like these guys but have never kept them before.... I plan on doing a nice black substrate with some Driftwood and rock. Now my questions are what are the best chances to get a breeding pair (if possible) should I keep more then a pair? Will a pair be fine for life in a 55gallon? and what other tank mates would be good with these guys for life?! any info would be nice :)

Jewel cichlids, if you like bright red fish with blue sparkle...

Yeah I've seen Jewel cichlids. would they get a long with the firemouths and probably a school of corys?!

You could do jack Dempsey, German blue rams are pretty cool.

Jack dempsey would get too big for my tank and German blue rams are always nice but seem hard to keep.

Jewels wouldn't they are too docile for firemouths plus they are Africans. And they lay like 500 eggs so if you don't want tons of babies I would advise like maybe a blood parrot or two but it's you're choice.
