Hmmm if it's a 55 um do you want aggressive fish? Angels are always cool especially if you have some slate and live plants. And bred to be hardier nowadays .you could do like 5-7 of em in there for when they are full grown

See I was thinking of a severum buy would they be able to live in a 55 for life? I've seen some pretty big ones

I would house them alone and maybe a pleco or two if you don't want to breed em. A 55 is great for life. I have a pair in my 29 till I can find them a 55. I like to keep mine species only. They are more active like that. The severum is a hit or miss. Fire mouths don't do well when being bullied ime

Jewels wouldn't they are too docile for firemouths plus they are Africans. And they lay like 500 eggs so if you don't want tons of babies I would advise like maybe a blood parrot or two but it's you're choice.

I kept colorful fish like yellow labs in average tap water. No peiblens

just do the breeding pair of firemouths and some fillers, like some schooling/shoaling tetras or something. if the firemouths breed and get aggressive/territorial, they'll probably get themselves into a losing fight with anything even slightly meaner lol. That way if they do breed and get territorial you lose a couple tetras at most.

Yeah that sounds like what I'm going to do. How would I tell the sex if the fish before i buy it?
