firemouth/convict?

my convict and firemouth just spawned! any advice gratefully accepted as only new to cichlids had other fish before but still a bit of a novice

watch the eggs make sure theres no fungus on them, make sure there plenty of cover and plants for the young to hide in, any other tank mates?

yeah plenty of tank mates! a pair of firemouths , a pair of keyholes, two silver sharks a ghostknife and a plec, wasnt after advice on looking after fry more on what the fry will turn out like? and waht will i do with them all?

ah cant help ya there. be careful though good chance the plec will eat ur eggs and the other fish will eat the young

yeah they are doing a pretty good job though dominating 50% of the tank even the plec doesnt get too close!

haha nice, post some pics if you can, pics of the parents would prolly give us a better idea of what the offspring would look like

will do that. isnt it bad to interbreed though? they will be hybrids afterall and i thought that was wrong in the fish world?

alot of people frown on it and will tell you to destroy the young, me, well i say as long as your doing it for yourself, and your not going to give them away or sell them off and keep them for you and just you your fine. the big deal is people dont want the hybrids getting into the hobby and knocking out the pure breed fish, which has already happened in some species of cichlids.

right,right, now i understand and deffo agree, so i better hope that not too many survive other wise i shall be overrun!! or should i say overswum!!!

haha, if to many survive just use em as feeders for ur bigger fish if uve got any....
