120gal and not enough space for the poor little Salvini. I say get some more fish in there. Get a fish that will put them Firemouths in their place. Pacus will do it. Firemouths are notoriuos for harrassing other fish till they get theirs.
I got lucky and my firemouth will only pick on one of my 3 other cichlids. I have a JD, FM, Salv, and a Nicaraguan. The firemouth tries to pick on the Nicaraguan all the time but the Nic is like 3 times bigger and just pushes him out of his home. My salvini and Firemouth seem to help eachother at times fight the Nicaraguan. Nothing ever is violent though, just some pushing.
The firemouths better get their licks in now, because at some point the salvini are going to grow up and discover that the firemouth are all hat and no cattle...
I had a 3" firemouth harass a 3" salvini to death about 2 months ago. Not outright as I moved the salvini into an isolation tank but he soon stopped eating and succumbed. I tried everything. Moving decorations, isolating the firemouth, dividers all with the same result. Sometimes it just won't work no matter how much you try.
The firemouth is now about 4" and thinks it runs the tank with a con, Jd and GT even though the firemouth is the smallest fish. I have to really keep an eye on the firemouth because he constantly gill flares and occasionally liplocks the much larger cichlids never backing down from a fight. Ive heard they are all bark but mine didn't get the memo. If my jack wanted him gone it wouldn't take much. 300 can't get here fast enough. Good luck with yours
