i put a firemouth in my moms tank an just wondering some general tips for it. he's bout 2 inches long right now an he is eatin hikari cichlid gold an staple.

Without more specific questions, there's not much we can say other than writing entire books about them...and that would be pointless since they're already out there. Look up a couple of fish profiles on them and sift through the information and you'll get a good, general idea of what they need to thrive and what kind of behavior to expect.

how big is your mom's tank, and what else is in it?

Firemouth's are not very aggressive (for cichlids), but they don't necessarily make good community-tank fish . . . they need a 29G tank (or bigger) to really do well

well i have a firemouth in my 5 footer and hes the 3rd on the hit list meaning hes the 3rd in boss. he chases my convict ( and sometimes the FM and convict get along and swim with eachother but not always ) my firemouth is 2.5 inches and has alot of spunk to him. so not always true of them not being aggressive. i have a mild aggressive one.

I keep accouple fire mouths in my 35 gallon and Ive found that using sand or really fine gravel helps keep the stress level down and keep your cichlids happy

its in a 29 with a parrot an a convict umm 2 silver dollars an a pleco

a 29 is too small for all those you listed except a solo firemouth or convict, possibly the 2 together, but I wouldnt do it.

Take everything in the tank back to the store, except the convict and/or firemouth and put some guppies in there with it/them.

Also, in the future, id read about what fish can go in what BEFORE you get them.

um first i know what goes what so dont start tryin to boss me around an 2nd i said its my mom's not mine an im not goin to tell her what she can an cant buy cause i did once an she said its her tank not mine.

Simma down now...I wasnt trying to boss you around.

If you cant do anything about it, maybe you could show your mom this thread/website and help her to become a more knowledgeable fish keeper.

playing the averages . . . everyone has a "tough" version of one fish, and a "wimp" version of another . . .

when all is said and done, acrosss the board, mildly aggressive pretty much sums up the firemouth . . .

my concern was that if his mom had a tank full of guppies or neon tetras, it might not be a good idea to drop a firemouth into their midst . . . :D
