firemouth help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Whatta you feed him? I think if he has a female he will perk up. I found that the female wont breed unless the male is sorta twice her size. Yours may not breed straight away if they don't have that bond. But they will soon develop it. Now get some pictures up! Heres some more of my male!

Your gt makes mine look like babies. I will try to get some pics cause my phone sucks at taking photos of moving objects.

Mine aren't so much babies anymore! But here is what my male looked like a couple of months ago. So yours will bloom in no time at all.

Looks like he will grow into a nice terror. Switch the flakes for pellets though, they work much better IMO, something like hikari cichlid gold or NLS. I use hikari gold as a main source and add in treats every other day. That seems to make his colours shine.

Also, the pictures were taken with a DSLR. So the quality of the image has an affect on how he is portrayed. Although, he looks even better in person!

i bought them some hikari cichlid gold like last week . my female loves it but he wont even bother with em , i noticed that he was diggin a pit in the corner of thetank while i was trying to snap a pic hopefully they spawn soon

i use a hd webcam it takes good pics but for sum reason when i take pics of my fish they looks crappy idk if its cuz they are moving and the camera is ment for still shots

what is nls? i have heard about it but dont know what is it

should i get a dither fish to bond my pairs? right now i have to juvie goldfish with my firemouths that i got as feeders but they dont like em , i was thinking about getting 2 convicts to use as dithers cuz for some reason my male gt only eats the feeders eyes but not the whole fish

I would remove the goldfish. They serve no nutrutional value, and can often be the cause of internal parasites. Plus, they create a lot of bio-load. They also encourage predation in a fish which isn't really a huge predator. So if you ever want to add other fish he may just eat them. Dithers may work, but to be honest, i would just leave the pair in the tank alone for a while. If they haven't met before it could take time for them to bond. Feed the female lots of high quality food to condition her. Just remember to keep lots of hiding places that only the female can get in. Because although you have a male and female, you do not necessarily have a pair. This is why i started with 5 and allowed them to pair themselves. To save myself this stress. I would leave them a week or so alone. If no signs of breeding then try dithers, but not cons! Something like giant danios or larger tetra species.

i kno my gts are paired because before i was told to move my male to a tank alone the female would always chase off the other smaller female when she came close to my male so i would say they were getting well bonded before he was moved .i was thinking i might have messed things up when i had put my male in the 29 . my firemouths im kind of unsure if they are bonded or not
