I was looking in a lfs and I've never owned either, so I'm just wondering which one would work best with silver dollars?

I have 3 red hooks in a 90gal with a sailfin pleco, and thought about putting one with them.

Personal I would go with the severums I have had both and severums you have more variety and color varities than the firemouth(meeki)

Severums. I own both, and personally think the severums are a little more docile of a fish. Unless they're breeding of course. :-)

As with most of the above i'd go with severums. In my opinion they are more attractive, and come from the same region as silver dollars. Decorate the tank up with driftwood and it'll look gold.

Thanks. I was asking from a compatability point, I do like the look of the Sev more but temp wise if it were more of a problem then I'd go with the FM. I only want one of whichever I'd get. The guy at the one lfs has the reds, but he says I should buy 2, not 1. Sale pitch or truth in that?

Sale pitch, in fact you're maybe better off with one as sevs can be aggressive with each other unless they're a pair. My gold chased my green around for close to a year, they've just recently made peace.

Either will be compatible with your pleco and hooks though, so it's really up to you. Are you planning on getting anything else (besides the sev or FM)?

severum,as both fish do better with a higer vegetable content to thier diet.Just be aware live plants stand no chance at all in that tank.I had my dollars with a group of rotkiel and it was a very busy attractive tank.
