Firemouth tankmates in a 55g

well a dempsey for me have been ok in a 55 the thing also is they grow extremely slow! and i mean slow had a male 3years was about 8in female 5years10in
 
That is amazing looking I wonder how old that guy is. Anyway I agree myself I wouldn't do it for life but I would imagine that He could raise a small one for a year( while making sure aggression doesn't get out of hand) with the fm and at that point decide what direction to go. We all know how the tank bug takes off especially when you keep fish as rewarding as a true green terror. If an upgrade isn't possible over the course of a year or so than I would probably go with a Honduran red point as they are small and mild mannered.:)

The hrp look like convicts. I haven't seen any in my lfss'. Thanks for the help guys decisions decisions there is so many choices the ones I love my tank is not adequate. Smh and to upgrade cost alot and I would probably only get a 75 the biggest. Has a larger footprint but still can't have multiples in one tank. What do u guys have?

If you really like fm than get a pair if you are looking for something more exotic than you may have to ditch the fm. Get on craiglist and see what tanks you can find. I live in Idaho which is about as aquarium poor as it gets and I can always find 100-150 gallon tanks for $150-250 full set up. Watch it and upgrade when you find a good deal. 55 gallon tanks are pretty limited on what you can keep for ca/sa cichlids and I only use them as growout tanks. Good luck with whatever you decide!

I definately would not mix ellioti in with Meeki (Firemouths) as they'll either fight or cross breed ;)

U could do Salvini,Rainbow cichlid any of the Cryptoheros,blue acara, Green terror...
