Hi,
Iv been doing some research and i wondered what everyones thoughts were on keeping swordtails and other larger livebearers with firemouths? iv heard this is actually a good thing for the firemouths, but i wanted some expert opinions?

Thanks

I moved this to the main discussion area so you hopefully get more feedback. I would absolutly add some swordtails and as mentioned above you will add a consistent supply of healthy live food. You may even end up with a glassbanging swordtail. Trust me I used to have one MONSTER little fish...

wikid! so pleased with that!!! its a 100 gallon, i love cichlids, but my partner is always moaning about me having single fish. It there any other "swimming" fish that will go with these? i know the bottom dwellers ect, but would like to know all options? thanks again everyone :-)

One species that is always out and active is Chalceus macrolepidotus "pink tail chalceus". They stay fairly small and are quick so they won't get messed with. Oh and they have a pink tail so you can tell your girl you bought them for her. You might as well score a few points in the process right? :naughty:

My friend has a tank that has a single jewel cichlid, a FM, 2 Opeline Gouramis, and a shovelnose. He added a Chalceus macrolepidotus and the firemouth murdered it in a day...

Really? Wow I would not have expected that. My T. meeki are pretty tame, only aggression is conspecific. Good to know, thanks.

No problem. His Firemouth is about 4'' and his Chalceus was about 5". We thought it would be fine as well. He put that and a Black Ghost Knife at the same time and nothing has bothered the BGK
