A lima may eventually get big enought to eat a FM, but they grow pretty slowly IME. Ive got a 7"er and I got him a quite while ago at 5". And severums do grow fast... mine went from 2-7" in a year.
firemouth with severum?

I've kept them together before and no problems. I suggest having a couple of hiding places for the firemouths.
The severums get much larger than the firemouths and can get very mean and nasty. I've always read and been told that severums are gentle giants but all six that I have owned have been big nasties.
My firemouths bred and ended up owning half of my 55g tank even though they were the smallest fish in the tank.
Never has any injuries though. A bit of fin nippage but that's expected.

I've never had a problem with fm/sev. The lima however, can eat a lot bigger things than you would think. I've seen a 5" lima eat an equal length rtc...well try....he died trying to do it.....
