firemouth x salvini mom and dad

because it has a dot on its chek and that how u can tell on salvinis if its a boy or girl.

While a dot on the gill plate is more common on female sals then it is on male sals, it is not a reliable indicator to sex salvinis ---- some male sals do pocess a dot on their gill plate and it's not really that uncommon either. A more reliable indicator to sex salvinis is the dot on the dorsal fin, which females pocess and males do not ----close to 100% reliable.
But I would think the dot on the gill plate on this crossed fish comes from it's firemouth parent.

I agree. I don't understand why you would use a unreliable way to sex savlinis to sex your hybrid.
 
Sorry for the thread necromancy, but I was considering creating this hybrid (firemouth male/salvini female).

Does anyone have any updates on these fish?
 
I got it from loves severums because it was getting to aggressive for her so I traded her for some cutteri fry that I bred (thanks Jenna.) She's in a 90 of mine with about 15 other fish (rainbow cichlids, centrarchus, cutteri, a convict, and some other smaller/random new world cichlids.) About 2 weeks ago she successfully spawned with a male cutterXseptemfasciatus (another hybrid that came from the same store as the salviniXfiremouth.) The fry were free swimming for about a week but I didn't feed my fish 1 day and all the fry got eaten. I suspect they are going to spawn again soon. If I decide to keep any I will have a 4 way hybrid LOL.

I will try to get a update of the female soon. I still have the other one but I have it in a tank with a bunch of spirulus grow outs.
 
awesome! i would love that hybrid..is it fairly common for these to breed?
