Hi people. Just a quick question. I found an old 48x12x20 inch tank made with 3/8 glass. Could not turn down the deal. $50.00 including 2 AC50's, 2 heaters, and a big box of chemicals, meds, ect. Now to the problem. I have absolutely no where to set it up. I was wondering if anyone has used a raised fireplace hearth as a stand. My fireplace has a hearth that is 60x15 raised about 8 inches off the floor. It has a marble surface that is perfectly flat and level. I put a 1/4 inch peice of plywood down as a base and put the tank on it. I have not filled it up yet. I was hoping someone else may have tried this or may have experience with construction and would be able to tell if it will be sturdy enough .Thanks in advance foe any and all comments.

My uncle has a 40 gallon tank on his fireplace hearth. It is brick, not marble, but I am sure it would work the same. He has had it there for over 15 years and not one problem.

can we see a picture?

I currently have a 55 on my brick hearth, worked out well, put a piece of matting underneath to ensure it stayd level and it's been going for over a year.

first time uploading pics. I hope this works

Fish soup anyone? LOL
Ya that should be fine! If thats where you like it then go for it! if not then you could always build a stand pending your a diy kind of person. Otherwise get someone to build it for you.

I was looking at this location because I do not have room for another tank on a stand. Also don't you think having a roaring fire as a backdrop for the tank would look incredible, I think it might work. HaHa. I think we will fill the tank up today. So long fireplace. Thanks for the input.
