I so excited my favorite LFS is moving to a new location and I got a great deal on an aro. I've been watching him for over an hour. Just an amazing fish. He settled right in and has already started eating. I need to know everyhting about these fish, it's my first predator so all constructive advice is welcome.

Please don't get hung up on tank size. I know how big they can get. He's about 6" and in a 50g. There's a 260 in the garage collecting dust that'll be set up when he needs it.

The most important thing is that you shouldn't have any holes or openings on top of your tank.. Keep them all closed cause aro are jumpers..

What kind of aro is it, I would assume a silver aro as the are most common. They are strong jumpers, tank lids need to be completely sealed and weighted down. Sillver aros grow quickly 1-1.5" per month and even upto 3" per month is not unheard of. So you better figure on having that 260g running within 6 months but you may have a little more time if it is not a silver aro.

check out the sticky 'do you want an arowana...' lots of good info for your learning needs...

Agreed, LOTS of great info in that thread. My silver jumped out of the tank twice in 10 minutes. I taped it up right away, even the smallest little hole should be covered. Better safe than sorry :)

you must have scard the crap out of you lil aro...one of mine went a few months without a top at all and it didn't jump till it was 10"+-...it was top free from 3"...that was cause of an oscar that i got rid of that day...

Not at all, i checked him everywhere for any loss of scales or scrapes but i dont see any. Lucky me

stay away from feeders. I bought an aro likelast year, and he did the same thing hopped right out of the tank, but he did fine :) haha. I tried to get a bargain price on him also, but it was already pretty low
