since when did feeder automaticly meen goldfish?... outside of your world other fish are feeders...not all feeders are actually filled with thiaminase...to my recollection minnows and other small fish witch become feeders when you feed them to anything are from the same place as arowanas...yes everyone does jump on the bandwagon against feeders cause everyone including you think of goldfish as being the only feeder fish out there...i feed wc sunfish, perch, bullheads, crappie minnow/fatheads, shinners and suckers...all of them are feeder fish and not thiaminase rich...

so before you come off like you know all and i don't know what i am talking about think twice...as the world is much larger then what you see...

just an example...a 18" wolffish is a feeder fish for monster pbass in the wild....
You're right. Feeder arapaima sounds really logical.

Yes, I need to grow up and see the circle of life. By using your own logic to make a point, I become some kind of egotistic idiot. Your so called amazing growth rates and practices somehow ended you with almost 10 dead rays, an amazing feat thats quite hard to accomplish even within TFD customers. If you can somehow kill off 8 of your 10 rays, theres obviously something wrong with what you're doing...

obviously you fail to mention that they were retics(witch makes a huge difference)...of the 8 that died...3 died to to shipping related issuses, 1 just stopped eatting and died, 1 died after being molested by my male, 1 got killed by bad tankmate choice, 2 just randomly died witch you of all people know that, that happens...my water never got above 10-20ppm nitrates, 0 nitrites, 0 ammonia....but then again according to you i fed them feeders and that is what killed them all...thats what you are getting at with your coment in red...how many fish have died in your care? obviously none as you are perfict in every way...you need to grow up because you have always distorted things and left out parts to benifit yourself...also you have always been egotistical, it isn't from just you turning what i said into something that counterdicts what i said...i have noticed that you are high on yourself since i first seen one of your posts...the main reason i said you need to grow up was cause you only seem to see your side of anything...i know i have made some mistakes, one of witch was ordering rays from TFD...i also know that goldfish aren't great feeders, witch is why i didn't say to use them...yes i didn't specify that they shouldn't be used, but come on...

Lets help the op here. Get him on superworms, shrimp, and eventually smelt/silversides (along with your pellets). All good sources of nutrition for your aro. Not that expensive considering you've got a growing monster. A nice silverside beats a feeder hands down and you can keep em frozen and use them when needed.

Being as in the wild a large part of there diet is insects I figured it couldn't hurt. Yesterday I caught a small spider and he made short work of it. Today my son caught a little black beetle and "Goerge" we call him chomped it down. Watching the fish strike is an amazing thing. The kids were glued to the tank thru the whole thing.

cool...my kids like to watch them eat aswell...most of the anti-feeder guys are anti-insect aswell...if you know the sorce they are all fine...

my aros eat aro sticks, fresh tilapia, market shrimp, frozen krill, chicken and turkey hearts, chicken breast. and as a treat now and then i'll buy 20 medium crickets and drop them on top of the tank, that is always a BIG hit.

they never went for the bloodworms and brine shrimp that i fed the other fish when they were small. now everybody eats big food or bigger food. and i even occaisonally (a couple times a year) buy live feeders, but the aros aren't very interested in them.

My aro was started at home by the owner of my LFS. A really great guy. So I know he was fed frozen bolodworm as his main staple along with a feeder or 2 every few days. One big advantage of living in a small city.
