Hi guys!

I got my first arowana today, it's a little tiny 3.5" silver arowana. I'll post picks ASAP.

I have it in a 185 gallon tank till it gets about 1.5' long, then it will go in the indoor heated pond I'm building.

How long should It take for him (don't know what gender it is) to grow that big? also, if it's possible, how do I sex it?

New to the forum so be gentle please. Thanks!:D

Silver aros grow on average 1 to 1.5" per month, I'll let you do the math. Silvers are pretty much impossible to sex, though there are some opinions on it out there.

Alright, thanks.

Your avatar:hitting: had me laughing.

welcome :D, yea growth from 1"-2" a month and can tell but has to be an adult and its not 100% acurate

it will grow as fast as a blink of an eye, they grow really fast with proper care and feeding.

welcome
arofever is addictive.
once you catch it, its hard to let go. those who let go are ....... weaklings! lol

anyways, i love aros
i dont have a silver, yet, i had them ages ago
one day i will have them again
i have a 1.5 red aro, rtg aro and a jardinii aro.

the thing about your silver aro is that it will indeed grow 1 to 2 inch per month with the rright water, food and tank size.

185 galln is all good, but what are the dimensions.

ifyou wanna keep it there for 1 to 1.5 years, you will have trouble. it will outgrow it in one year or less.

n one year, i think your aro will be 18 to 20 inches. personal experiencethis is true.

i suggest you build that pond asap, and try for 1 year, not more.
your tank will be around 6 foot. and 60 ish cms height and width.
not enough for a silver aro.

what diet you planning on having?

Thanks. The little guy eats crickets, flakes, pellets and anything else that hits the water.

The water stats are nitrate 20ppm, nitrite 0ppm, Hardness 150ppm, Alkalinity120ppm, pH 7.4, temp 82F.

He seems fine, but are the stats ok?

Diet sounds fine, don't Give him crickets very often as they're not as nutritious as pellets and I've heard of fish getting addicted to crickets.

ya crickets make them addiced and dont eat other stuff
